It has been an interesting day.

If I didn’t get my parcels from the post office cats would get hungry. If I didn’t find wood, we would all freeze.

I went out and shoveled 35 feet of my driveway. It was supposed to be 20 as per agreement with my snowplow guy.

I unlocked the garage doors so I could get Gracie started. I poured a little gas down Gracie’s throat and thats when I heard the click click click of a dead battery.

It was expected after the week long deep freeze. -55 ru kidding?

I went upstairs carried the gen down, found the battery charger and hooked everything up. I started the gen and the charger wasn’t charging the battery.

I grabbed another charger it says battery full. Neither of them would charge the battery.

I called the Post Office I found out they would closed till next Wednesday. My last bag of catfood would never last that long.

I called the Hutterite Colony, the last friendly people in the area. I asked if they were going to the village. The answer was: they had already been.

I was starting to get worried. I told my friend Rosa what was happening. She said she would call back if she found a way.

I was getting worried that I may have to walk the 8 miles pulling my sled, load it up and walk back another 8 miles in 30 below and blowing snow. I can hardly make it to the end of the driveway, but I would have attempted the trip or die trying.

I gave up on the generator and charging the battery. I put it away. I locked the garage doors and sealed them best I could.

30 CM of snow was going to fall over the next two days. White Christmas no problem. Hungry cats big problem.

My friend at the Colony called back said she would find someone. She told me to call the post office and tell them they were coming.

I did that.

I looked over at my shop and there was a bunch of boards different sizes and species left over from woodwork projects from years ago.

I had forgotten about them. I moved my woodwork shop to a different part of my house. I had already burned all my project wood from the new shop.

There was enough there to keep me going a couple of weeks maybe more.

Christmas Miracle? I choose to think so. Not as fun as the Santa radiator shop complete with deer christmas eve story, but I will take it. Just then I heard a car pull up outside.

It was a man bringing me a goodie bag from a secret Santa. A roasted chicken some veg, and a few other things.

It wasn’t enough to feed cats for 4 days but would have helped.

I had been out in the cold for about 2 hours by then. I decided to move some wood while I waited. I cut up a few with a handsaw for the fire.

Right after that I got a call. My parcels had arrived. My friend had gone in her self and picked up my catfood order, plus I had tuna, beans and a few cans of salmon, along with 12 packs of Ramen.

She also had a couple of bags of baked goods.

In summary I wouldn’t freeze or starve, and my cats wouldn’t starve.

Poor old Gracie still wouldn’t start but that was a problem for another day.

Second miracle was I was able to get all that done with my spine hurting like it was.

Third miracle at 4:03 PM I was able to make my morning coffee.

I exhausted and in pain but grateful that I got help today and happy to have hot coffee right now.

There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.
