The driveway had to be cleared of snow because my kitties were almost out of food. So was I but I had tons of pasta and pantry items I wouldn’t have starved. Looking back a few days later it was the right decision the cats food ran out on sunday.

I have been ordering my food from Amazon, as much as possible. Why? I don’t spend much on fuel, I like the free shipping and I have time to research the products I am buying to see if they are really organic or if they are from one of the megacorps, who really don’t know what the word ethics means.

So the day started with carrying down the generator, pulling the snowblower out, checking all its fluids. Starting the gen, that turns the electric starter on the snowblower until it fires.

Next is making the long walk up and down the driveway 50 times so the snowblower can do its job. My hands hurt before I started, even worse now, and knees, back, neck, and all the rest.

It was windy, the snow just blew all over me and the blower, I was covered in ice and snow, the whole time regretting not putting on a bandanna. But thankful I had my winter beard, it turned into a gray frozen mass, but my face was okay.

A few hours later the driveway is done, a path is done, so I can do more wood. I roll the machine back into its home lock the door and take a rest.

Now comes time to unscrew the boards holding my garage doors from moving and a few extra to keep blowing snow out. Pour a little gas down Gracie’s throat and soon her engine is roaring ready to go.

Down my dirt road plowing through snowdrifts, I make it to the highway and to the village where my food is sitting at the post office, I pile all that into Gracie stop at the convenience store to pick up a few more items. I Had to, the box that didn’t arrive had all the coffee creamers.

That wouldn’t arrive till Tuesday. Yup there is another snowstorm coming tonight, I will have to do this all over again in a few days.

That’s it, for now, I need to rest my body is achin. The snowstorm is here early, immediately I had a mind panic that says go out get the last four logs before the snow is too deep. My body says “are you fuckin crazy?” I wonder who will win. Who do you think will win the body or mind?

All the organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was the one in charge.

“I should be in charge,” said the brain, “Because I run all the body’s systems, so without me nothing would happen.”

“I should be in charge,” said the blood, “because I circulate oxygen all over so without me you’d all waste away.”

“I should be in charge,” said the stomach, “because I process food and give all of you energy.”

“I should be in charge,” said the legs, “because I carry the body wherever it needs to go.”

“I should be in charge,” said the eyes, “Because I allow the body to see where it goes.”

“I should be in charge,” said the rectum, “Because I’m responsible for waste removal.”

All the other body parts laughed at the rectum and insulted him, so in a huff, he shut down tight.

Within a few days, the brain had a terrible headache, the stomach was bloated, the legs got wobbly, the eyes got watery, and the blood was toxic. They all decided that the rectum should be the boss.

The Moral of the story?

You don’t have to have brains to be in charge.

The ass hole is usually in charge!

“Even in winter an isolated patch of snow has a special quality.” Andy Goldsworthy It had to be done.
