My cats smart and dumb as they are, have figured out how to jump up, and knockdown get two skinny pieces of wood wedged tight against a 2×4 screwed to the wall. This was my idea of a door latch it has worked well for many years.<\/p>\n

I woke up freezing, I haven’t had my perpetual fire burning for the last few days.<\/p>\n

I have a brave little one-eyed cat named Deeburs who was growling in my ear. My mind put it all together and I jumped out of bed.<\/p>\n

It was then I heard the coyotes. No problem most of the cats were locked inside. So I thought.<\/p>\n

When I got to the fire room the door was wide open. The dumb boy cats had escaped. In the midst of a coyote flood. Now outside the door, I yelled out a warning at the predators.<\/p>\n

I could hear 5 or 6 distinct different coyotes. I did a quick cat inventory
\nI was missing 7 or 8 cats.<\/p>\n

I grabbed a jacket a handful of shells, my rifle, boots and cell phone.
\nAs soon as I was dressed I headed out to save the cats.<\/p>\n

No wonder the house was cold the tall grass from last season was frozen solid and crunched with every step. Last night must have been -10 or more<\/p>\n

I spotted two of the older boys, the more experienced cats. They were hiding in a lumber pile on my porch. I didn’t see any others.<\/p>\n

I know which cats were the Houdini’s. Two orange boys. I didn’t see them.<\/p>\n

I walked out to the property line. The coyote’s howls now just a memory. I snapped a few pics while I lamented what I saw.<\/p>\n

A ton of yard work and cleanup to be done now that the snow is gone.<\/p>\n

As for the missing cats, I may get them back I might not. Only time will tell.<\/p>\n

I got four cats back five still missing. I saw three more but now the coyotes have been scared off they are liking the outside, at least till they get hungry.<\/p>\n
