“Men admire the man who can organize their wishes and thoughts in stone and wood and steel and brass.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Homestead

I will write more a little later.  The storm total  10 inches (ca. 25 cm) of snow. The sun has poked out for a while, so I can charge the solar batteries a bit. I took a walk outside this morning and took some pics to enjoy. I may try to go out and remove some snow off the driveway. If the machine will start. So happy I did extra wood. There is a warning for extreme cold tonight to -45c. And it is very cold outside if I wait to do the snow removal it will only get colder. I will see how it goes.

It goes like this, the snow is back, snowing hard again sun is gone. Snow removal waits.

The first days wood is gone. The wheelbarrow is empty. If you have read my previous posts, you will know what that means. Today it means nothing, I still have a two-day reserve. When that gets low, I will be forced to remove snow, so I can get to the woodpile. Today is a snow day, really a cold day.

I was just outside, my tasks were easy, move three forty-pound bags from the van to inside. The cold bit into my lungs, that made the job twice as hard. The colder the air the more it seemed my lungs need to gulp air

I went back out to get another steel bowl of snow to melt. The first one was for the cats to drink, this one was for me. I had hoped to wash my face and hair with fresh water. There is nothing like snow water.

Although I read that Monsanto’s chemicals are now in our rain and snow.

What possible reason could a man have to push and old rusty wheelbarrow through deep snow, to chop wood in impossible freezing temperatures? Same as always needed doing, the wheelbarrow was empty.

So that is what I did, pushed the old wheelbarrow through the snow and went out to chop. Now I didn’t do a huge load because I knew that, the heavier the load the harder it would be to push through the deep snow.  With a little effort, I was inside again by the fire.
