“Men climb mountains, scale heights, venture into the unexplored to prove to other men it can be done.”
Mother Angelica
What possesses an old man with balance problems, arthritic knees and way too many injuries to even mention, to climb two ladders up 35 feet onto a roof so slippery I could barely hang on, only by crab walking, in my snow boots. They have the softest rubber soles and gave me the best traction up there. I did more than cook my feet, those boots are made for 60 below It is 25 above out there maybe more on the reflective roof. In the wind with a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of tin roofing without a harness? Same answer as always, needs doing.
In the fall I noticed a ripped roof panel, there was already frost there. The osb under it swollen and deformed I knew I would have to go up and repair that one day.
Today was the day. Now the repair is temporary and will hold until I get another harness, so I can hang from the edge and repair the osb underneath. Now I already know that the wall below is also damaged and will have to be opened up and repaired. That will next year. I am sure there is a big colony of bees living in there. So that will have to wait for spring when it is still cold. For now the sheetmetal is secured enough to hold it until then. I did learn that the recent windstorms had ripped two other panels. I secured them best I could I will have to return with some silicone or tar to cover the cracks.
Now I get to rest and play a little on my xbox. I painted another section of my kitchen floor with polyurethane to protect it this morning. For me that is more than I can usually accomplish in a day. Being up there with that bright light left me a little blind.
I have no intent to put flooring in there as one day this will all be wood work shop.
That’s it for today, my body is telling me to rest for a while.
- left a patch so I can make coffee when the rest is dry I will finish the last bit
- rustic door for kitchen just made that
- from the roof
I thought this song was appropriate. It was the last Beatles concert, which was performed on a roof.
