“It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things.”
Theodore Roosevelt
I never know what I am going to say here most days. I start with coffee, while the water is getting warm I head outside to snap a few pics Then it’s inside to pour the coffee into the cone filter and wait patiently for it to drip down. That’s assuming I have already filled the cat’s bowls with food and water and had a quick look to see if the litter boxes need to be emptied. They always do.
Then I glance over at the wheelbarrow to see how much wood is left. There is never enough. The weather will hold till Monday and then another cold spell is about to drop down from the Arctic. The temps will drop to below -8 c at night single digits in the day. It means I will need to chainsaw and chop.
That is a bad thing right now, both shoulder joints are giving me trouble even putting on a jacket is a noise-making event. Since I live alone there is swearing involved.
Imagine what starting and swinging a chainsaw is going to be like, a lot of swearing. And don’t forget after that involves me moving a 12 pound splitting maul above my head, and bringing to bear down hard as I can into unforgiving logs until they are split into firewood. Last thing, haul the wheelbarrow full of logs a hundred feet and up a ramp to get them inside for burning.
The good part, I get to stay warm.
