“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
Maya Angelou
The more things change the more they stay the same. Yup just did the dead man walking out to the woodpile. Chainsaw, wheelbarrow and eye protection. Nope didn’t have that or hearing protection. Shit.
I made the slow walk back inside put on my safety gear. I did the slow walk back to the woodpile. I surveyed the pile and planned my attack. A few pulls and the saw came to life. I love my saw, had it for years and it starts better than I do.
When I was done twenty minutes later, I added way too many logs into the old wheelbarrow, found a place to fit the saw, and ever so slowly, and delicately pushed the heavy load to the garage. I had visions of spilling the eight hundred pounds of logs and saw, so I moved very carefully. I won’t lie, I had to rest ten feet from the door. I made it look like I had stopped there on purpose to unload the saw. Just in case the birds were watching.
I did the last ten feet into the shop. Splitting would have to wait. I was too exhausted. I tried to reason with myself about bringing the chainsaw into the house.
“It can wait” I argued with myself “you are too tired”
“fuck that its only 30 more feet”
The last argument won, I picked up the saw and brought it inside. Why? Because I learned, the hard way, snow and sawdust freezes in the sprocket of the saw and makes it unusable. Yup I know I am getting a little schizophrenic and so am I. Really not.
Now I am on the couch resting. I would have to go back out there later to split the wood before I bring it into the fire room. So here I am typing words probably no one else is going to read.

Ya, I can’t believe I did the whole thing and got it all inside without spilling the load. Crazy. That took a lot of 6-inch steps. My walkway has a heavy lean to port as I walked through, due to the recent warm weather melt, but don’t worry they say up to 35 cm coming soon to a driveway near me.

Got everything done, almost the gen is still up there running. I just got a call from diagnostic imaging the appointment that I have been trying to have done since October has been cancelled indefinitely due to covid. I hope that the extra garlic, Tumeric and honey will cure what’s happening my throat. It is all I can get. A proper diagnosis would have been nice. Oh well.
Last thing I just wanted to mention as a note to myself my vision is getting very blurry even with glasses on. Reading is becoming difficult.
