If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito.
Anita Roddick
Rain and more rain with hot and cold mosquitos in abundance. I read somewhere that the mosquito has killed more humans than all other causes combined. The historians say that 108 Billion humans have inhabited this earth and mosquitos have been responsible for 52 billion deaths. Every year 1 million people die from mosquito bites according to the WHO. Maclean’s magazine reported that the number to be twice that. Coronavirus so far has killed 585 thousand.
I am outside my mosquito net at my desk. I have killed five in the last few minutes. I keep my doors and windows closed have screens where I don’t. I didn’t want to believe that so many could get inside just with one trip outside the door a day to snap pictures or the bi-weekly excursion to town when I have to open the garage door to let Gracie out. Yes, I named my old van.
Yesterday I did a walk around my house and saw my enemy in force. I was covered in swarms of mosquitos. Keeping my cool while I took pictures best I could, I snapped my pics and ran into the house flailing my arms and screaming like a small girl. Ok, it was a brisk walk and I swatted the embedded off my arms before I re-entered my house.
The mosquitos here don’t carry virus, or more correct I think, viri. Not even the West Nile Virus. Almost there was one case in 2012. I am thankful for that. But they are annoying and smart. Even with my newly installed mosquito net over my bed, some get in, patiently waiting by the entrance. But a lot better dealing with two or three than the hundred or so that make their way into my bedroom.
I think I like Mice better because the cats kill those. I have to go out of solar power, wish I would have got the wind generator up. Oh I forgot I am tracking some minor health numbers here mostly for my self.
