Physically, you never get used to the cold. It’s cold! If it’s cold, it’s cold! And you go out there, and your body feels it, but I think mentally, living in it, it’s not such a shock to you.

442 am awake again.
Something weird about that time of morning.
It’s almost 11 am now. Cats are fed and watered. I took the pictures below while i was feeding the birds. I did notice that the cold sheduled for tonight was already here. My thermometer read -22c. The weather forecast say it feels like -30. It means that there is a cold wind. Chainsaw and chop was going to be cold.
To see what I had already inside I filled the log hoop with all the wood I had left in the fire room. It wasn’t going to be enough to get me through a cold night.
I needed to get out and chainsaw and chop. I also needed to cut extra, 4 days of snow were coming. I knew I needed to cut the ones on the ground. The chain dulling kind. If I didn’t cut them today I wouldn’t see those again till spring. Deep snow would cover the logs this week.
I would need every piece of wood I could find to get me through the winter, I may even have to chop up the lumber I had on my porch and any lumber I had in the shops.
The weather stations were forecasting a week of very cold and snow, happening almost everyday. They have also forecasting a brutal cold winter with extra deep snow on top.
I understand why my solar panels didnt give me any charge. During the night we had a small frosting of snow. My already limited solar day was rendered useless. I was concerned. My batteries have been very low for three days. Not good for the batteries.
It was too cold to run the big gen especially since it has not run for a few years.
I turned my attention to my saw. The chain was dull. I picked up new files at the hardware store. They did not fit in my special sharpener. So I had to sharpen by hand. I suck at that job. My eyesight is just not good enough to do that well.
I was also worried about my hands outside. I knew my gloves were not good enough to handle the cold. Thank God the gloves were too big. I was able to fit some thinsulate gloves inside of them. Would I be able to handle the chainsaw. I will let you know.
I just got in from chainsawing. The chain didn’t last ten minutes. I would have to put on the new one and pray it was the right one.
I cut enough for tonight. I still needed to go back out and split and transport. The only choice I had was to split by hand again.
A very painful option for me. Oh and BTW the gloves inside gloves kept my hands warm, but made it very difficult to work.
I am back from chopping. When I got the load to the back door. I did a quasimodo shuffle back inside. I managed to get the load inside without spilling it. But did have three stallouts on the ramp that I had to power through. No choice.
