A man is like a cat; chase him and he will run – sit still and ignore him and he’ll come purring at your feet.

My morning started as it does on most days with feeding the cats, making coffee, and then heading outside to feed the feral cats that have adopted me. I made progress this morning, I got to pet one of the cats as I enticed it closer with a bit of food. The big cat even got closer, I almost got to touch him. Two years ago I touched his nose.

I am trying to get them inside before winter, especially the little cat. The big one has survived two polar vortex events that got as cold as -52c. The hair on the little is nowhere long enough to survive that. I wonder even how I will survive this winter. I do not have enough wood. Wood is scarce due to the opposite climate change event we had this summer, a heatwave that caused many forest fires. There was a temp difference of 100c between the two events.

I expect we will see more of both in the future. Tonight the weather will drop to freezing, just the beginning of more cold nights.

I fried my Xbox controller and ordered another. It won’t be here for a few days. The Xbox is my reward tool. After I do some work, I reward myself with Xbox time. So today I pretended that I would get time to play. The job was to clean my loft. I haven’t lived up there since the heatwave. I learned something about my damaged back today. Sweeping with a broom standing up hurts, it’s hard for me to do. Sweeping on my hands and knees hurts much, much worse. I managed to get all the dirt swept into a pile. Now I need to rest, so I figured a good time to write today’s entry.

I am charging my laptop up in the loft. I have a 12v charger I saved for, now I get a chance to try it out. I thought it was a waste of power to turn on the inverter convert 12v DC to AC and then turn that back down to DC to charge the laptop. So this is another experiment in power saving.

I am also gathering all the seeds and trays and clay pebbles, net pots and jars as I get ready to plant food indoors. The first few seeds are germinating now. I never realized that I had gathered so many seeds. Every time I went in for groceries, I bought one packet. I have been doing that since last winter. Oops, ya, maybe too many.

I am going to grow in the winter using a couple of USB-powered grow lamps. No, I am not going to grow anything illegal or legal in Trudeau’s world, just greens I don’t get enough of those.

I just watched an episode of the new Fantasy Island. It was about a man meeting his younger self. Something I thought about many times. Would I warn myself about the bad people that came into my life? or eliminate them from my life. Hard to say. if I did that I wouldn’t become the man I am today.

Taming the feral cats. Hard to tell in the picture but big cat is over 25 pounds.
