Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.

William Arthur Ward

It’s morning. All the aches and pains are there. Some worse than others.

Soon I need to get out of bed to start the morning chores. Cats need feeding. They need water, boards need cutting then rendered down to kindling. The fire needs starting again. Kettle needs filling. Same things I do every day.

It is getting harder to do things, as always they need doing. The next cold spell will be arriving soon. If I can, I need to bring in wood, gather snow.

My lower back is out, I need to be careful. I have to go to town tommorrow. Snow needs shoveling.

Another snowstorm starts tomorrow.  Just a few inches. Add that to the slushy mess left in my driveway.

Boards are cut, kindling made, fire started, almost. I can’t believe I fit an entire ten foot board in the fire box.

The crackling is just getting started. That in itself is a small miracl. The wood was extremly wet. Making kindling exposed some dry inside.

Todays fire

I was out there, I dragged a few boards out, and exposed a lot more.

I thought I better get a few boards out for the start of the coming cold. A few boards I dragged to the door.

After catching some oxygen, I will drag them inside. The rest of the boards were of the 20 foot long variety. I would have to cut those down outside.

Tiring work for me, breathing hard now, every breath hurts.

I guess typing that pissed me off. I just went out and dragged in all the boards I exposed exept for one very wide and very long board.

I have enough inside to last me a few days. Not cut yet of course.  I am sitting on the cat couch, now breathing harder. I can hardly move.

I thought the boards would be better off drying inside than sitting out in the forecasted rain and snow that was coming.

The fire was crackling now but hot water and melted snow was a long ways from happening.

Did I mention I got the wood inside? A big accomplishment for a disabled old man.

Onto the next job. Either cut more boards or go fill a gas can. Yup it’s gaming Sunday.

After coffee, after clean up, after poop shoveling into the fire, after boards get cut, after dishes cleaned, after everything else.

Somewhere in there breakfast. My alter video game ego Jake needed to kill more bad guys, more monsters.

For me it really means I am resting and recuperating from this mornings chores.

Gen started, coffee made,Jake is waiting for action. Breakfast not yet, soon though.
