Only the knife knows what goes on in the heart of a pumpkin.

Simone Schwarz-Bart

Imagine an invisible knife stuck in your spine, not too deep, but enough to stay stuck in there.

In the village was a large parcel containing 2 large bags of cat food, that needed picking up.

Now imagine driving to town, paying bills and walking a half mile to the grocery store and lifting heavy bottles of water and overfilling a grocery cart with heavy groceries. Then unloading all that in the van.

Then going to the gas station and filling three 20 liter cans with gas. After that, to the bank to pay bills.

Finally, do the half hour drive home choking on sweet potato fries, that is caused by the spine injury. Now imagine the ice cold smoothie to wash it down, that gave me a painful brain freeze.

I made it home and quietly and carefully backed Gracie into the garage, trying hard not to look at the giant wasp nest five feet above my head. Especially after watching the recent video on the weather network about wasps being aggressive during fall and they can detect and follow the fear pheromone. I can’t outrun them.  I can’t even get an EP pen because the Alberta Government is almost a year behind processing my Blue cross card. Autumn is now, I saw Canadian geese flocking today.

The unloading. It seems I bought twenty bags of groceries, none of them light. All that plus a couple of heavy bottles of water. The cats bowls needed some. I found a half liter for now.

The groceries needed to be hauled a hundred paces into the house and upstairs to where my pantry was. All without stepping on a new kitten.

All the groceries and water were now in a pile. The knife felt like it was in deeper, I had to lay down. It is the only relief I can get. I don’t do drugs, pharma or alcohol except for coffee and a daily low dose aspirin to thin my blood. The groceries would soon have to be unpacked. I had curious cats ready to investigate. I think I bought too much, I was low on food down to a few cans and no cold coffee before I went to town.

I still had my brain freezy smoothie sitting on a counter near me to deal with. Truth is, I didn’t need more pain today. Did I mention that the wildfire smoke was so thick it looked like fog? It is another sunny day.

Most of the groceries were unpacked after an hour rest. Except fresh fruit. The amount of fruit flies this year makes me want to keep it in plastic long as I can.

The knife is digging into my spine again. I need another rest. I poured the rest of my brain freezy smoothie into my stainless 30 ounce coffee cup and then filled it with cold brew coffee. That was still cold. It was terribly bad but great.

I bought way too much fruit, I know, don’t shop when you are hungry. What can I say, I am old and forget things.

I have to go, I have 4 baskets of red, blue and blackberries to eat. They go bad fast.
