In winter mornings, I start with hot coffee. I usually start by filling the kettle, then put it on the wood stove to heat.
My chimney is not repaired yet, Tuesday more snow coming. I have to go up on the roof tomorrow. No choice. I do not have tons of wood to burn. I have a bit. Enough for extreme cold for a few nights.
I have a propane heater that is rated for outdoor use. Yup, should have paid more attention to the fine print. Seriously, who wants to heat the outdoors.
I have my Chinese diesel heater to install, still waiting on one part. I bought an extremely low wattage electric heater. I should be able to run that on solar for short bursts, and I have blankets. Some still need a trip into the laundromat. Soon.
Right now, the weather is being a little kinder. Inside my room it is eight, if I run my Xbox it will be 11.
Now the coffee. I sit at my desk where I have my single burner propane cook stove. I fill the kettle with from the 3 liter clear cistern beside the cook top. After hooking up a 1 pound bottle of propane, turning a switch lights the propane. While I am waiting for the water to heat up I get a new bamboo paper filter add a scoop of coffee, then put that in the Melita cone.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t fit on my 30 oz cup. The water now ready gets poured over the filter while I hold it above the cup.
Three pours later, the cup is full. I scoop out a heaping tablespoon of whole powdered milk. Once that is vigorously stirred in, I put the lid on the stainless cup. It will stay hot for hours. The propane bottle is disconnected for safety. Then I am off to enjoy the cup full.
Yes, the cook stove does contribute to the heat, a little. I do not burn it long because of what I read about propane and natural gas toxic fumes.
I am off to enjoy my coffee. Of course, I fed all the cats, even the outside feral cats. Now it’s time for me, breakfast, vitamins, and my vit C juice with Tumeric, ginger and a shit ton of sugar. Yea, I should have read the fine print.
