That was fun. My ride to the post office cancelled just before closing. There was not enough time to find alternative transport, evem if I could.

I was out of water. No coffee, no pasta and thirsty cats. I had a huge order sitting at the post office, water was just around the corner at the hardware store.

My only alternative was to collect water from the pond and filter it.
When I got to the pond it had an inch of ice. I chopped through best I could and got a bucket and a half of very green water. I filled the lone water filter bucket and hoped for the best. My second filter bucket was waiting for filters sitting at the post office.

I wouldn’t be drinking coffee for a few days. Cats come first. The single bucket did not make clean water fast enough. I needed 5 liters a day for our needs a single bucket made 2 a day.

I was also worried about the viability of my ride. I got a clear idea that were reluctant to give me further rides in. That and the twenty cm of snow coming on Sunday would be another reason to not give me a ride in.

I had visions of walking the 8km in deep snow pulling a sled full of catfood and freight. Considering walking down to the end of my driveway tires me out, the walk would probably kill me.

THE NEXT DAY

I made the decision to get one of the older filter buckets functioning, more out out necessecity. Over night I was able to make a single liter.

I made the trek down to pond, to fetch more water. Another 1/2 inch of ice had formed over night. I broke through that and gathered another 30 liters of green water.

It was becoming clearer as winter approached. The solids and dead wild life sinking to to the bottom.

By the time I made it back inside I was panting, my lungs were worse. I had to sit, giving me time to write this.

I wondered how all this was going to end, I assumed badly for me and my friends. All my friends had paws.
