We build statues out of snow, and weep to see them melt.
Walter Scott
Today I need to make many trips up to my shop. Yesterday I filled the giant bowl with snow and left it up there where it was safe from potty toed cats.
I am melting snow in a saucepan. First for me, then for the cats. They got fresh snow in their water bowls. After I spend a longtime melting more, they will get liquid water.
Today I will get my last cup of real coffee. Thanks to CUPW and the Government my food and coffee are two weeks away.
Second trip down. Last one went to cats and half a kettle. While I was in the shop I remembered a small canister of emergency coffee. Sadly with a quick look I didn’t find it.
I just remembered the small folgers container but not what happened to it. It had been in there for years. There wasn’t much in there, enough for a couple days more.
Ya I know it sounded terrible. If you were dying of thirst in a desert would you drink from a mud puddle? Without hesitation.
My third saucepan of snow is melting, I have 2 liters of water filtered through a coffee filter. I hope to get 6 today. Enough for coffee, pancakes, cats and a little in reserve.
Maybe even for the water bottle by my bed for emergencies. I noticed that I am choking more often on food, the cough is worse and the pain in my throat and tonque. Let me be straight here I have no delusions about what I have and that it will kill me, but not today.
Today I am melting snow to make water for me and the cats. I am on my fourth pot. Ya forget what I said about me first. I gave all I had to the cats. This last pan was was for me so I could finally make coffee, and pancakes. It was 20 minutes past lunch.
I just spilled my last cup of real coffee. I am heart broken. While I was reaching for my instant coffee I knocked over a cat bowl i had just filled. I was standing in a puddle of water wearing my insulated booties. The ones keeping my feet warm at night. The ones that kept the clubbed toes on my right foot from frostbite. It just wasn’t my day.
