My lungs are worse again today. I just did a snow gathering. I was out of breath before just carrying the empty bowl and sauce pan. The cold air didn’t help. I filled the giant bowl and a saucepan with packed heavy snow. I saw little black bits in the snow. Filter? YES YES AND YES.
I hauled that inside, it was very, very heavy. I carried those down to the woodstove. The fire that I had started early was hot now. I put the saucepan and giant bowl on the fire.
I told myself I needed to stay to babysit the two, but I really didn’t. I needed to rest because I was out of breath and exhausted. It was a little too smoky down there anyways, I had to leave. The smoke hurt my lungs.
I made sure all cats had liquid water then I headed over to the office. I told myself I didn’t need to do anything. I already had hot water in the thermos.
If you read any of my posts you already know. If there was important stuff that needed doing I did it. Water needed filtering, breakfast needed making, bowls needed to be cleaned, the cast iron frying pan needed seasoning.
I did it all at once, I heated the frying pan, poured oil in there spread it around. I turned the heat low. I mixed together the 15 year old pancake mix, added some stuff, chia seeds, cacao nibs, egg replacer, cinnamon, tumeric, because I had that stuff in stock.
It looked great but not like pancakes, more like burgers. I am sure with a little honey or molasses on top it would be fine. Even if it wasn’t, didn’t matter, it was all I had.
Atter was all set tp leave when I realized I had no hot water for coffee. Then I looked over and I still had batter in the bowl. I hooked up the propane again, moved the the skillet back on the lit burner and added the batter.
While I waited I added the water I filtered into thermos to the kettle. I just had to cook the last pancake.
I took a look at the temperature monitor. The fire room was at 40. I was a little concerned so I had a looked at the fire. The first load of snow was completly melted.
I had done something different. Yesterday I poured a whole bag of unused wood pellets in the wood stove. Today I built a fire on top of those.
Brilliant, I had found a way to get through the week of minus 30. I poured the water in to a large water bottle becauxe I knew what was coming. I needed more snow. The fire was hot and it had to be now.
I needed breakfast and coffee too. Those would have to wait. I went back outside and filled the bowl and sauce pan again. My back couldn’t believe what my mind was doing. The pain was almost unbearable. Breathing was difficult as it was for the first load.
I collapsed onto my stool in the work shop again. I rested for ten minutes. Then I decided I needed a couple more pictures. The cold air burned my bare hands. I was only out there for two more minutes.
I am back in my office the giant bowl is on the fire, again. Now I am too exhausted to make that coffee.
