Update below

Some days I wonder why I do what I do. Why build a tiny house, I have a house. I keep running into obstacles that stop me dead in my tracks as I try to build my tiny house.

I KEEP ON KEEPING ON.

My one eyed and pregnant cat curled on my lap as I type another waiting in the wings for her chance to sit in the prized spot I pour hot coffee down my throat, giving me a temporary surge of energy I write down the words you see here.

As if building it by myself with little money wasn’t a big enough obstacle. The latest if you read my zombie post was my table saw. My faithful saw has been with me for years never let me down. Up in smoke it went. I tried to source out parts. That was a waste of time and effort. I installed the new parts only to watch them go up in smoke again.

A new saw was the answer, except for a few immediate problems.
Money I don’t want to buy a cheap saw that is disposable. That isn’t answer for me. I think that is indicative of one of the biggest problems in our society. Nothing lasts, they make it too expensive to repair, so we buy new over and over again. Disposable computers, cars, and everything else.  It keeps the economy rolling. I am not even going to go into the environmental impact.

So I spend time looking for a replacement saw. Finding a saw for me is as hard as finding an online date that is compatible for my lifestyle. I am fussy any saw won’t do.  It had to be durable, functional, and pretty to look at wouldn’t hurt. I had enough of the wrong ones, so I need to find the right one. I was talking about the saw not the woman. 😉

After hours of research I find what I am looking for. The price is reasonable, it is sturdy enough for my needs, the reviews are good. Best of all it has an external motor that can be refitted with any motor. It was six hours away in the big city. So now I have to go earn some money make the drive and pick up the saw.

My usual foray to Edmonton goes like this I get up at three or four in the morning I drive six hours get to the one store I need to go, load whatever it is I needed, gas up and drive the six hours back.

I have lost three weeks of good weather trying to make the table saw I have now work out. I can’t wait for the new saw although it will be necessary in the winter when I am building cabinets in the kitchen and shelves for all my movies.

Remembering I had an old garage sale antique saw sitting in storage in my garage. I dragged the rusty heavy beast out, and into my tiny woodwork shop. It was missing a fence ( the part that keeps the boards you are cutting at the right width.) I dug around the pile of metal I store  for emergencies, in the pile now overgrown with thistles I find a rusty piece of angle iron. I will use c-clamps to hold it in place as a ripping fence.

I had a look and thought I could make it work. First step disassemble and straighten out bent parts and see if a full size blade would fit. Then reassemble,  remove the rust from the table and see if it all worked out.

The saw had a sticker on it from T. EATON company.
After a little research I found out it was actually manufactured by the Sutton Tool and Die Company.

The saw could have come from 1940 to 1960. I had replaced the motor years ago and forgot about it. I was sure that I decided the motor was to big or too fast for the old saw.

Today I will finish the rebuild and actually spin it over. I hope it will do until I can make the trip to the big city.

Do yourself a favor turn the settings up to Hd and make the next song Fullscreen the imagery is breathtaking. Take care and be safe.

UPDATE

The saw is rebuilt.  It is just about ready for ripping the boards I will use for my walls. The saw  spins and just needs the right size belt.  I was thinking I would need a proper ripping blade. I was cleaning my tiny wood work shop and I found a brand new 10 inch freud ripping Blade still in the package. I don’t remember buying it, but I must have Unless God sends table saw blades, now that wouldn’t surprise me.

I made a fence and hold down system set it to the right width and I am ready to go.The belt I bought was a little too short so I will make one more trip to the parts store and try again.
