Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.

Abraham Lincoln

Or chainsaw.

It is 2 PM. I just chopped the rest of the wood I had inside. It was brutal, logs hard as a rock, even the 12-pound maul was bouncing off.

I ended up with about 6 hours’ worth of wood. I needed to go out again.

I got another message from my wildlife guy Matt. The message said I could not kill the cat that was hunting me.

A phone call back confirmed if attacked I could defend myself. Which is what I said in the first call. I won’t kill animals for no reason.

I won’t kill humans for no reason, either. If attacked, I will defend. Just like in my novels.

Time to get the saw ready and face the day. The weather forecast says -47 tonight. I needed more wood.

Day faced woodcut, transported and snow collected.

Did I make it more than 5 feet before it toppled? Nope, made a second trip

Now 4 PM, I am finished work except feeding cats. I am going to have that second cup, it seems I am doing that more often.

I should chop more before it gets darker, but I am tired, back is sore. I have a light bulb I hang around my neck, USB rechargeable with built-in bug zapper. I can chop with that later. Did that last night.

I am burning the woodstove at full throttle right now to heat up the mass of the house. On the next load, I will throttle down to save on wood.

To tell the truth, I would just like to lay in my bed and rest.
