“What I feared has come upon me.”

Job 3:25

Do I fear Friday the 13th, I say with a quiet resounding no. When I was ten years old I had an event in my life.

Playing with friends, one of them mentioned that today was a bad day. I asked why. The answer was Its Friday the thirteenth of course.  I said I don’t believe in that stuff.

As we went through our morning adventures we climbed up a steep hill of sand leftover from a construction site. Debris all over. One of my friends was uphill from me trying to scale our mountain. On his way up he dislodged a boulder that rolled down the hill and hit a cement culvert, that came loose and rolled at me trying to end my life with a purpose. I managed to dive to the right and escaped death, but the culvert did hit my arm and scraped the skin on my arm, enough to make it bleed.

I shrugged that off as a coincidence as my friend said see I told you.

Later that day arm now bandaged we continued our adventures, through the forest. I stepped on something squishy and all of a sudden I was covered in Hornets, the size of small hummingbirds. I was bitten about fifty times as I ran and screamed arms flailing until I escaped my black and yellow foes.

My friend looked at my swollen face and said you need to respect the day, I nodded in agreement. I said to him the worst thing that could happen now is my dog dying. It wasn’t really my dog, it belonged to my stepmother, a cute little cairn terrier just like the one in The Wizard of Oz movie. (the original). We had become best friends, much to the chagrin of my Father’s second wife.

My neighbor, father of the boy who tried to warn me. I think out of pity looking at my lumpy face asked who wanted to go for ice cream. We all ran for the sky blue 66 Mustang, climbed in.  We didn’t even travel ten feet, and we felt a little thump. I feared the worst and was correct the little dog laid dead on the road.

Did time exaggerate the events? No they happened as I say they happened. They are permanently etched in the part of my brain where memories are stored. I clearly recall them from 51 years ago. Since then, I had had a healthy respect for Friday the 13th. I try not to do anything or go anywhere.

Yesterday I tried to start my van, it wouldn’t fire. I was finally going to the hospital to have tests done, so I could confirm what I already know.

Today I will do nothing further. I suspect water in the fuel system. How it got there is another story. I needed to change the fuel filter and maybe drain the fuel tank. They have a filter in stock, 4 miles each way. I might have to walk there to get it.  I am barely able to do a quarter mile on the treadmill.  I will try to do the walk but not today.

It is Friday the 13th, and it wasn’t good for the Templars either.

More fun facts about today retailers lose 900 million dollars because others are hesitant to go out today. I have read and heard on youtube up to 13% (funny number) of the population fear the day as well.

I also heard that Eve gave the apple to Adam, the Cain Able murder, Noah Sailing all on Friday.  That the day is famous for hundreds of crazy events even for sailors. So the British Navy Named a ship the HMS Friday captained by James Friday, which sailed in a Friday and then just disappeared.

Oh and I did get hit by a drunk driver on August 1, 1986 at a hundred miles an hour, you guessed it on a Friday. That accident left me disabled with four years of physio before I could walk unaided. The first of three major accidents in my life.

The last supper Judas made the 13th Guest.  They say Jesus was crucified on a Friday and the list goes on and on. Is all that true who knows. I just know that when I was ten years old lots of bad things happened when I disrespected the day. So now I don’t.

Okay I figured painting my bumper would be safe, as I carried the open can of paint I slipped on the stairs and almost fell (imagine doing an eight-mile walk with a hurt leg on top of the problems I already have, or cats covered in gloss black tremclad. Earlier  I found my shampoo container on its side, shampoo all over.

I will make her run again

Could those things happen any other day? Sure, but they happened today. I painted the bumper, looked for meteorites falling from the sky and went back indoors. 😀

Take care and be safe especially today.
