“Fires can’t be made with dead embers, nor can enthusiasm be stirred by spiritless men. Enthusiasm in our daily work lightens effort and turns even labor into pleasant tasks.”
James Baldwin
Our first big snowstorm is on its way. I rushed around to get a few things accomplished. I Needed to get some blocks of wood inside ready to split for firewood, I needed to completely clean out my garage and get my van inside. If you read the post from yesterday, my muffler fell off. I need to replace it.
I don’t have one, I looked for mine but it was gone when I got back there, after the dentist. I have other vehicles here with mufflers that might work. The bad thing is there will be 14 inches (ca. 36 cm) of ice and snow out there when I go looking for one. It will mean lugging a jack, generator and Sawzall through the snow and then crawling underneath and cutting one out.
Money for this month is all gone as it usually is by this time. Bills paid food bought, other supplies already on the shelves at home.
I need the van functioning for next Friday, I have an appointment to have a barium swallow done. I won’t be able to sneak through Grande Prairie with no muffler as I did for Spirit River. I did coast quietly downhill past the police station there and parked a few blocks from the dentist.
The good things, I finished cleaning the garage, I got my van inside and the doors closed. I managed to get a few blocks of wood inside, so they can be split. I didn’t have to use the chainsaw, but I did pick up some very large blocks.
At least they are inside out of the snow. I didn’t get any split. If I ration my wood tonight I should be okay. That all took about four more hours than I am usually able to work these days, and the fine dust I swept took its toll.
As always it needed doing.
I did manage to make sure there was extra food for the chickadees they will need it, Saturday night it will be minus 25c.
I think I am ready for the storm, doing all that work was difficult, still having problems with breathing and I have been having roving headaches. I find that a little disturbing feels like a clot moving around up there or maybe some plaque.
It is what it is. Take care and be safe and if you live in the snow zone stay warm.
