Today is the day. I have a water pump, and I am going to start pumping water to the inside. I still have no way to get it out of the inside tank. I will try to solve that today.
Very gray outside and I missed an opportunity to catch more rain last night. I have to go and get started cats are fed and watered. I have had my coffee It’s pumping time.
I started pumping. Yup should have checked the outlet port. I got that backwards. Should have used water pump pliers to do the hose ends.
Splish, Splash I was taking a bath, water was shooting everywhere. I grabbed the only thing I could find to wrap around the leak my surgical mask.
That helped but now the water was streaming down my arm. There was no one around to help. I grabbed a close by bucket and undid the hose and threw it outside. Then had a big panic cause the generator was out there.
Like an Olympic hurdler trying to come home with gold around his neck, I jumped over the treadmill, past the sharp exhaust pipe of my 55 project, around engine stands, hammock stand, gas cans empty buckets and to the door got outside. Not really bad knees busted hip. I got out there the gen was fine. I shut it off. Then went hunting for water pump pliers.
I got the leak down to a few drips. I put a bucket under that. Now I am sitting next to the tank babysitting.
It was pumping slow, I was lucky if I was getting a hundred gallons an hour. That was maybe because of the filter, which was getting browner by the second.
Still babysitting I am sure an hour and a half have passed. I did make a stop to clean the filter. The rain catchment tank was filled with algae. Now that I have a place to put the water I can load the tank into the trailer take it to the car wash and wash it out.
Thank God the water in the new tank is clean. Long before I drink that, it goes through two Berkey filters that give me 99.9 percent pure water.
I won’t use bleach and peroxide is on short supply due to COVID. So the car wash is the only way. I don’t own a pressure washer yet. Got other things that are a priority.
I think my inside tank is half full or is that half-empty. My outside tank definitely only a quarter left but it is raining hard.
I am sitting on the front porch right beside the high-pitched whine of the little pump. It was to be the place where I could enjoy morning coffee. The back deck will be the place for that, once I get a roof on it.
I spent too much yesterday, so no sheet metal this month, even food was going to be a challenge. Lots of pasta, not even beans I ate those last month when I was starving to pay for the water tank. Not complaining I am excited about having running water. Soon I hoped.
The rain let up for a moment and produced this sky.
I just figured out why my batteries are not charged the cord should have been inside and plugged in, oops.
I was just settling in having a hot coffee. When i heard it. Awesome heavy rain, oh no the catchment tank was on its side. I once again did the hundred yard hurdles and ran into the pouring rain. I put the tank right added an extension to catch more water and came back inside. Showered.
