If the world seems cold to you, kindle fires to warm it.
Lucy Larcom
Another day in my world. I slept through my alarm to load the fire. The house wasn’t cold yet and there were a handful of coals. Not enough to self ignite, so I gathered the empty cat food bags and placed them on top of the wood I put in there and gave them a little fire from a small propane torch I have nearby. The cats are fed, and I am upstairs. I just heard a crackle coming from the fire. That’s a good sign in another half hour I may have hot water for coffee.
I am going to have a little cereal and oat milk before I get dressed for outside. I just watched the weather report another major snowstorm is about to hit, then comes the vortex giving us the coldest air on the planet. Wind chills may hit -50. With some luck the snowstorm will fall lower south than I am, that comes with a trade-off. If the snowstorm is further south it is because the polar vortex is pushing it there which means if I don’t get snow I will get the cold sooner.
I was going to town today to top up my groceries, but my snowplow didn’t do the road to the highway. I may be stuck here until next week. I have lots of canned beans, cereals, oatmeal and pasta, most important I have lots of coffee and powdered whole milk for whitener.
It looks like my day has been decided no trip to town, another snowstorm has started. Unless the plow arrives in the next hour I will be staying home for the next few days.
It got sunny and clear for a while. The snowplow did come. I went to town did all the things I needed to do and got home. Unloaded the groceries, fed the fire made a coffee. My back is hurting. I still need to go out and chop wood.
Gracie is in her home snuggled in for the cold spell
Most I could do today, was move the blocks of wood ready for chopping tomorrow. A thousand pounds worth.
