Lettuce is like conversation; it must be fresh and crisp, so sparkling that you scarcely notice the bitter in it.

Wow this month is ticking along already. I got up and did the things I do every day. I fed the boy cats, fed the girl cats, even left a little food outside for the strays. While I was out there, I snapped a few pics. On the way back I grabbed another big bag of cat food to fill the bin. Time to heat water for coffee. My water filtering system output container was past full. The cats were getting pure water this morning, half for the girls, half for the boys.

Feeding frenzy. About the floor color, it was cheap.

Soon the water was boiling, then poured through a filter and into my cup. I remembered I had washed my sandals out in the rain. One of my new kittens decided one was a good place to poop. Yucky right. They were soaking wet from the extreme rain we got over the last few days. I hung them out in the sun to dry.

Today I hoped to get my grow tent up, and I hoped to get the outside covered in protection from young kittens and cats. When that was done, I would be ready to get the old mini greenhouse shelves in there. After that lighting and then jars and trays for growing, I still needed the Rockwool cubes coming from Amazon. They say they will be here in ten days. I hope sooner.

When they arrive, I need to put them in water and germinate the seeds. When I could see roots, it’s time to plant in the jars full of water and nutrients.

I will be experimenting with three different nutrients. Oh, I forgot I need to spray paint the jars with blackboard paint to keep algae from growing in them. I just had a brilliant idea I will spray paint them with chrome paint to reflect light around the inside of the tent. I will add a thin 1/4 inch masking tape line before I paint. So later I can monitor water levels in the jars.  Yea I am a little excited about getting stuff growing. I spent most of the year looking for the best deals, on everything i needed to do this. Jars. trays, seed, lighting. PH and particulate tester, net cups, clay pebbles, the grow tent, and the last thing Rockwool.

Wouldn’t be cheaper just to buy the veg you ask? Maybe, but my veg has not been handled by touchy-feely covid infected shoppers. And the rig will pay for itself very quickly. Let the zombie apocalypse come, I will have fresh lettuce, I hope.

I just got the grow tent set up only one casualty. The removal floor goes on the inside of the frame not the outside. Kinda ripped that in corners, and it is going to stay where it is now that the tent is fully assembled.

Could have used the help of the cute woman I am chatting with online.
