If the world seems cold to you, kindle fires to warm it.

6:30 AM. It was cold in the house. -6 in the fire room. I am THANKFUL I left a fire ready to be lit.
I got that started, cats were fed, but no water. I knew I had to gather snow for melt. It is -33 outside. Even through gloves it hurt to hold the steel bowls. My lungs already damaged, hurt with every breath.
I am sitting in font of the fire, my kettle also filled with snow waiting for the big melt. Oddly enough very thirsty, as I am sure the cats are.
I figure another 15 minutes before I see melted water. They couldn’t wait I poured the kettle into the cats bowl to help their melt go faster. That was a good choice, inside the kettle was a rusty cap screw caught up in the snow gathering.
Liquid water distributed I made the trip up to the loft. It was time to open the last bottle of store bought. I filled the kettle and the pasta pot with water.
Coffee made it was time to cook gluten free pasta for later. Then it would bestored in tupperware till lunch or maybe breakfast.
It is still an hour before daylight. It will be a dark day, cloudy , snowy and too cold to run a generator. I hope the solar has enough charge to last me the day.
I just checked the forecast, big surprise the extreme cold warning has been extended. Like I have said in many posts the cold never leaves on time.
The forecast says:
Very cold with a little snow at times with little or no accumulation, extreme cold can be dangerous for outdoor activities.
Ya whatever. What was important to me was cold, cloudy and windy. By midnight it would warm up to minus 20 with 13km/h wind gusts. Then tomorrow 0 degrees and rain. Yup rain after a cold spell means freezing rain.
That will make the snow gathering even more not fun. Yes I feel like a pioneer from a hundred years ago.
Daylight now, clouds confirmed. I came down to check on the latest bowl of melt. Another 2 liters plus a half liter I forgot this morning now solid.
Cats bowls were filled again, not actually filled but water added. I should fill the giant bowl again but I wont. 2 trips outside was enough. My back says no.
